  • The ventricles contract.
  • The electrical impulse travels to the atrioventricular (AV) node, which delays ventricular contraction.
  • The sino-atrial (SA) node acts as a pacemaker which generates an electrical impulse.
  • The purpose of this is to allow the ventricles to fill with blood.
  • This electrical impulse causes the atria to contract.
