  • Use a piece of filter paper to soak up any excess liquid from around the coverslip.

  • Use the clips to hold the slide in place and your slide is ready for viewing.
  • Then separate one of the thin layers of the onion and use forceps to remove the thin skin from the surface of the onion layer.

  • Carefully lower a clean coverslip onto the slide.
  • Put a drop of iodine solution onto the onion tissue to stain it brown.

  • First use a pipette to put one drop of water onto a clean microscope slide.

  • Place the piece of skin onto the microscope slide and make sure it is flat. 

  • Place the slide onto the stage of the microscope.
