Teachers' Introduction Notes
Page: A Level Eduqas eRevision
This resource is relevant for teachers of Components 1 and 2 of the A Level Eduqas specification for Media Studies. This eRevision package is designed for students to use in the run-up to their written examinations. It allows them to consolidate the knowledge they have been taught in lessons through a series of exercises testing a range of skills, from key terms and contextual knowledge to textual analysis and exam-style questions. The prospect of memorising months of knowledge can be highly daunting, so this package breaks down the specification in a way that facilitates fun and effective revision.
The exercises in this resource can also be set as homework tasks as they reinforce classroom knowledge and encourage independent learning. This package provides ready-made homework tasks in specification order, meaning you can slot them into your scheme of work with great ease.
The resource is structured in the following way:
Component | Topic | Sub-topic |
1 | Section A Analysing Media Language and Representation | Tide (Advertising) |
Section B: Understanding Media Industries and Audiences | Tide (Advertising)
2 | Section A | Media Language |
Section B | Media Language
Section C Media in the Online Age | Media Language |
Each subtopic in Component 1 is dedicated to a particular set product on the Eduqas specification. The majority of subtopics contain 3–5 exercises. One exam-style exercise has been included for each media form i.e. Music Videos, Film, Radio, Video Games. In the case of Advertising and Newspapers, there are two exam-style exercises available since these forms are covered in both Section A and Section B of the module. In correlation with the exam board, the exam-style questions in Section A challenge students to analyse and evaluate unseen products.
Each subtopic in Component 2 is dedicated to the theoretical frameworks. Each subtopic features two exercises resulting in a total of eight exercises for each media form (Television, Magazines and Online Media). Rather than delving deep into the optional set products for Component 2, this package challenges students to revise each media form from a more theoretical perspective. These exercises cover: the codes and conventions of each form; a vast range of relevant key terms; a comprehensive study of key theorists and the necessary industry knowledge needed to study each form. This module is designed to give students the general and theoretical knowledge they need to analyse their set products with confidence and complexity.
Please note that many of the exercises are differentiated in order to cater for students with a range of abilities. The level (A, B or C) at which students approach each exercise will determine the difficulty and complexity of the knowledge being tested.’
