Operating systems are used by many types of devices but are not used by devices like  games consolesremote controlsmobile phonespersonal computers. In addition to the functionality of a stand-alone operating system (OS), a network OS has extra facilities to handle  network trafficmemory managementmultitaskingfile handling. A network OS is generally used in network hardware like  RFIC chipsmemory cardsSIM cardsrouters.

With proprietary OS the source code is  hidden fromdeveloped byavailable toshared with the public. However, with open-source operating systems, the source code is  hidden fromlicensed byviewable byowned by the public and anyone can  copyrightpatentownchange it.
