There are many ways to take part in fitness training, with the different options each having their own advantages and disadvantages. These are often weighed up whenever a decision is made as to which fitness provider a person chooses to turn to. This activity will cover the three different sectors that can be used for fitness training, and will list the advantages and disadvantages of each.

  • As providers are only looking to break even, some activities may not run as long as planned if there aren't enough paying members to afford facility  
  • It relies on volunteers being available and their services being affordable - many volunteers are part of the community themselves and will, therefore, be willing to run fitness sessions for

  • Facilities also offer pay per so that facilities can be used on a one-off basis and, therefore, can be more affordable for some
  • Facilities in this sector are found in most areas as they are often run in partnerships with local , making them highly accessible
  • Funding usually covers the bare minimum, meaning that facilities are often and equipment is often cheap, limited in range, and outdated
  • Many facilities and equipment may restrict access to certain groups, e.g. basic swimming facilities may lack a pool hoist for people with disabilities 
  • Additional support (e.g. personal training) is likely to be limited due to being a lower priority on the budget
