An athlete might wonder what is done with the data gathered from fitness testing. There are more reasons behind it than just putting the athlete through gruelling tests. 

Below are several reasons for fitness testing:

  • Identifying strengths and in performance
  • To inform the that need making with the training programme
  • To establish baseline levels of and to  improvements at different stages of the training programme. Adaptations to a programme can then be made if fitness levels .
  • To compare fitness levels to data and to peers
  • To assess the of a performer to a given activity. This may occur as part of a talent programme for recruitment for a national team.
