If improvements in performance or the development of a skill hits a lull, the performer is said to have reached a learning .

There is a range of potential causes for this, each with a potential solution that can be used to overcome the lack in development:
Cause: Solution:
The performer does not yet possess a high enough to perform the skill. This calls for a whole-part-whole practice approach where the coach can divide the skill into and allow the performer to perfect each part before they piece the whole movement together.
The coach lacks the necessary ability, skills or experience to progress the skill. Depending on which, the performer may need to seek a more qualified coach who is able to develop the skill, or the coach might need to adopt a different to teaching/coaching.
The performer is not motivated to improve. The coach could offer to improve, such as extrinsic rewards, or help the performer to associate achievement with rewards such as pride and enjoyment.
The performer is becoming of training. This requires intervention from the coach to manipulate tasks so they are more entertaining.
The performer is too to give maximum effort. It is important that the coach schedules opportunities for the performer to and recover.
The coach might not be setting goals that are not enough. The coach should re-evaluate the training programme and agree goals that are ambitious yet
