The taiga is under threat from exploitation such as logging, sources of energy such as and mineral exploitation such as gold and iron ore.  These types of activities remove large areas of forest for present gain at the expense of future generations, making them .  Humans are also enhancing climate change through the burning of  fuels, which is making the climate drier, which is in turn increasing the frequency of forest .  Burning fossil fuels is also a cause of  rain (precipitation).  Pests and disease have also been spreading, such as destructive beetles like beetles which bore into trees and eventually kill them.

With so many threats it is good news that some groups are attempting to protect and conserve the forests through a variety of measures such as using the law to establish protected areas where no exploitation can take place or exploitation must be carefully .  There are differing views on how to do this, with large companies wanting to ensure they are creating , whereas environmentalists want to protect the wildlife and habitats, and local indigenous groups want to balance their income with ensuring future generations can continue to live and work in these areas.
