Calculations for Human Management (HRM)
Labour Productivity:
Total Output / Number of
The result of the calculation is expressed in the number of units made, e.g. number of strawberries picked per hour.
Absenteeism:
Number of Days Lost Through / Total Possible Worked × 100
The result of the calculation is expressed as a percentage and can be used to compare against previous data, e.g. the absenteeism rate is now 5% up from 3% last year.
Labour Turnover and Retention:
Number of Leaving / Average Number of Employees ×
The result of the calculation is expressed as a percentage and can be used to look at a specific time period, e.g. labour turnover is 6% this month.
These calculations can all be used by management to help make or indicate where there might be a problem. For example if productivity drops and absenteeism increases when a new manager is appointed then this may be the cause. Without this data the owners may not be aware that the employees are unhappy and demotivated.
