The relationship between Gerald and Sheila  during the course of the play. At the beginning Sheila is  and excited to be getting married to Gerald, and shows off her ring to her mother. She acts like a little girl by calling her mother “Mummy”. When she receives her ring, Sheila says: “Look – Mummy – isn’t it ?". She becomes suspicious of Gerald’s reaction when the Inspector tells the family that the girl changed her name to Daisy Renton. She says to Gerald that he looks  about it. She accuses Gerald of making up his mind that she, Sheila, must obviously be a  "creature” because she got Eva/Daisy sacked from . Later on, Gerald confesses that he met Eva/Daisy in the stalls bar at the in Brumley. Sheila speaks sarcastically when she says that Gerald was the “wonderful Fairy Prince” and he must have  rescuing and looking after Eva/Daisy. When she learns more of the relationship between Gerald and Eva/Daisy she returns her ring to Gerald but says that she doesn’t dislike him because he was at least being . She believes that Gerald helped Eva/Daisy at first, just out of pity. Sheila is also perceptive when she states that she and Gerald weren’t the same people who sat down to  at the family gathering at the beginning of the play. At the end of the play Gerald asks Sheila, “What about this ring?”. Sheila says she is undecided and "It's too soon. I must think.”
