The idea of of life is the idea that human life is because it was created by Allah, as a gift from Allah. To say that something is sacred is to see something as holy; this is something that is special and precious. Because gives life to human beings, human life is considered to be special and sacred. The Qur'an has various teachings on the importance of the sanctity of life, which includes Surah :32 which states that 'Whosoever has spared the life of a soul, it is as though he has spared the life of all people. Whosoever has killed a soul, it is as though he has murdered all of mankind'. The idea of sanctity of life is an important consideration when it comes to many modern medical issues, such as , which is the medical termination of a pregnancy. If individuals view foetuses (whether from conception or at a certain stage of pregnancy) as being human beings, they then consider them to have sanctity of life - which would make abortion wrong. Another issue which is impacted by this is the issue of , which is the assisted death of an individual who wishes to die. This is also sometimes known as mercy killing. Verses of the Qur'an which apply to this include Surah :29 which states, 'And do not kill yourselves or one another'.
