is a state of harmony in which people are able to live without the state of war or conflict. It is widely regarded by both religious and non-religious people as being the ideal state for people to live in. Many religious people feel that they have a special to make peace.  

For example, Muslims believe that looks favourably on those who promote and pursue peace. Therefore, many religious people may take intentional action in order to fulfil this role of by pursuing peace in times of conflict. They might do this by peacefully against wars they believe to be unjustified. 

Most Muslims are not considered to be , which is the term which refers to someone who upholds peace regardless of the context. The Qur'an Hadith and the Sunnah (example of the Prophet) teach that can be justified in certain contexts, and, therefore, Islamic teaching does not justify pacifism. However, it does emphasise that, where possible, a peaceful resolution is the ideal.
