Both religious and people can believe in and practise pacifism. Opinions on the subject are varied in scope. For example, some atheist humanists might believe that pacifism is the right way because of a non-religious belief in the sanctity of life (human and non-human alike).

Some Christians are pacifists, because emphasised the importance of peace. He stated that those who were would be blessed. However, because of the Christian principle of justice, many Christians believe that violence can be justified in certain instances – but it has to be a last , and every other potential avenue for peace should have been taken first. 

There are some branches of Christianity which believe in pacifism – for example, , or the Religious Society of Friends, believe that violence of any form is wrong and should be avoided at all costs.
