Divorce is the legal of a marriage. It can occur as a result of with or strains on a marriage, and can be a painful experience for the married couple as well as their family. A relationship may break down because of (otherwise known as adultery), money issues, abuse or illness; however, every divorce is different as every couple is different. As marriage in religious thought is considered to be for , many religions discourage divorce as a course of action if a couple is struggling. Some religious groups, such as the Church, hold that divorce is always wrong, as they view marriage as a . However, other religious groups, such as the Church of , were instrumental in aiding divorce laws to be relaxed in the 1960s, as they felt that allowing divorce in some circumstances is more reflective of the teachings of regarding forgiveness and compassion. This group does, however, view divorce as being a last , as every effort should be made before this point to help the relationship between the couple to be restored. Many religious groups and non-religious groups offer marital with the aim of helping married couples to heal their differences.
