Place the chromatography paper in a beaker of solvent with the pencil line above the solvent
Remove the paper from the solvent and mark the point it reached on the paper

Draw a pencil line near the bottom of the chromatography paper
Measure the distance travelled by the solvent and each substance
Add a small spot of each substance to the pencil line
