  • The audio recording ‘bleeps’, these increase in frequency as the test progresses in intensity.
  • The stage reached by the athlete is either entered into an equation or a reference table is used to determine their VO2 max.
  • The performer has to run from one line to the other before the ‘bleep’ sounds.
  • Cones are set up to form two lines, 20 m apart.
  • An audio recording is played, which indicates the start of the test.
  • The test continues until the performer can no longer maintain the intensity required (usually indicated by missing 3 consecutive bleeps).
