  • Economic boom: the regenerated urban areas often see a rise in the local economy – known as an economic boom.
  • Economic peak: parts of the inner cities and surrounding suburbs reached an economic peak whilst other parts of the cities continued to develop.
  • Industrialisation: rapid industrialisation led to urban growth, in terms of both population size and physical size.
  • Deindustrialisation: deindustrialisation swept through many cities and towns in the UK as companies began outsourcing manufacturing abroad for cheaper costs.
  • Dereliction/Regeneration: urban areas in decline often fall into dereliction, although many of these areas in the UK have been subject to regeneration or redevelopment.
