  • The digested cheese travels along the small intestine and the nutrients are absorbed into the blood.
  • This is stored in the rectum and leaves the body through the anus.
  • Undigested food enters the large intestine.
  • Fat in the cheese is digested in the first part of the small intestine.
  • The cheese is swallowed and travels down the oesophagus (gullet).
  • Water is absorbed from the undigested food to leave solid faeces. 
  • Protein in the cheese is digested by enzymes in the stomach.
  • The teeth break up the cheese into small pieces, and mix it with saliva.
