Calculate R_f values for each substance
Allow the paper to dry
Measure the distance travelled by the solvent and each substance
Wait until the solvent has soaked upwards through most of the paper
Draw a pencil line near the bottom of the chromatography paper
Add a small spot of each substance to the pencil line
Remove the paper from the solvent and mark the point it reached on the paper
