Drag and drop the boxes into the correct order.

  • More recently, tectonic forces uplifted the area above sea level, forming an anticline fold.
  • Finally, exposed areas of chalk remained as scarps or areas which are higher than the surrounding clay which forms the vales.
  • Most recently still, the clay was more easily broken down than chalk by the processes of physical and biological weathering.
  • Firstly, millions of years ago the UK was covered by warm seas, where shells of sea creatures were deposited on the sea bed.
  • The sea creatures which were deposited had calcium-rich shells which were compressed over time to form chalk rock.
  • The anticline folding exposed less-resistant clay layers of rock below the chalk.
