  • Apply an ice pack for 15–20 minutes every three hours or so to reduce swelling.
  • Elevate the injured area above the heart level, if possible. This can help reduce swelling.
  • Stop, and avoid any further physical activity.
  • Use compression wrapping or bandages to reduce swelling.
  • Rest and protect the injured area, using crutches or a sling if required.
