Teachers Introduction Notes
Page: GCSE (9-1) Eduqas Media Studies eRevision
This resource is relevant for teachers of Components 1 and 2 of the GCSE Eduqas specification for Media Studies. This eRevision package is designed for students to use in the run-up to their written examinations. It allows them to consolidate the knowledge they have been taught in lessons through a series of exercises testing a range of skills, from key terms and contextual knowledge to textual analysis and exam-style questions. The prospect of memorising months of knowledge can be highly daunting, so this package breaks down the specification in a way that facilitates fun and effective revision.
The exercises in this resource can also be set as homework tasks as they reinforce classroom knowledge and encourage independent learning. This package provides ready-made homework tasks in specification order, meaning you can slot them into your scheme of work with great ease.
The resource is structured in the following way:
Component | Topic | Sub-topic |
Component 1: Exploring the Media | Section A Exploring Media Language and Representation | Magazines: Language |
Section B: Exploring Media Industries and Audiences | Newspapers: Industry
Component 2: Understanding Media Forms and Products | Section A: Option 1 | Context |
Section A: Option 2 | Context
Section B: Music, Music Videos and Online, Social and Participatory Media | Context |
Each subtopic in Component 1 is dedicated to a particular media form in relation to one of the media frameworks. In correlation with the exam board, the exam-style questions on representation challenge students to analyse an unseen product and compare it to the relevant set product.
Each subtopic in Component 2: Section A is also dedicated to a theoretical framework. As per the specification, students will be studying either sitcoms or crime dramas – This package caters for both options. Unlike the previous sections, each subtopic in Component 2: Section B is dedicated to a particular set product in the Eduqas specification. Each of the theoretical frameworks is woven into these subtopics, allowing for greater focus on the specific set music artists.
- The majority of subtopics, across the pack, contain 3–5 exercises.
- Effort has been made to strike a relatively equal balance of exercise types so that students are tested on a range of skills.
- An exam-style exercise has been included for every single subtopic.
Please note that many of the exercises are differentiated in order to cater for students with a range of abilities. The level (A, B or C) at which students approach each exercise will determine the difficulty and complexity of the knowledge being tested.
