Voices
A singer's voice is often referred to by its range. The four main ranges are:
Soprano
Alto
Tenor
Bass
Collectively, they are referred to by the abbreviation SATB.
Ok, Got It!
They are also ordered from highest (Soprano) to lowest (Bass).
Soprano and Alto voices are most often sung by women.
Tenor and Bass voices are most often sung by men.
Ok, Got It!
There are two others you might hear people talk about, but you will not be required to know these for the exam. Here they are in order of highest to lowest:
Soprano
Mezzo-soprano
Alto
Tenor
Baritone
Bass

These are the ranges of the voices (very roughly).
Ok, Got It!
They can appear with a stave each, as above, or be condensed into 'short score', where Soprano and Alto voices are on the top stave, and Tenor and Bass are on the bottom stave.
