In business different members of staff have different job roles.  Some are specific to that business or industry and some are more general.  The general roles are the ones that you may find come up in exams.

A board of   editors administrators assistantsdirectors  in a business makes strategic or long-term decisions, and they have a responsibility to run a business so that it is successful for all its stakeholders, not just the shareholders.  They decide what   equity finance dividends capital  are paid out to the shareholders.  Directors are typically very powerful and can be paid high salaries.

Senior managers appear below directors in an organisational   constructionstructure building framework .  This means that they are subordinate to the directors and may have work delegated to them.  Senior managers deal with   military tactical navy strategic  or day-to-day decisions that may affect the business.  In some companies they are appointed by the board of directors as a way for the business to meet its objectives and to implement any strategies given by the board.

Below the senior managers in the organisation structure are the   staff directors supervisors foremen  or team leaders.  These are the front-line managers who monitor and regulate the workplace.  They are authorised by the senior managers to carry out any employee discipline or praise, and they may be in charge of all the workers on a   displace shift exchange break , e.g. a night manager in a hotel.

Below the supervisors or team leaders are the operational staff, who take care of the daily tasks which are critical to help the business to provide services or products to satisfy customer needs.  For example, a mechanic in a garage and waiting staff in a restaurant both carry out important tasks which help the business to run, but they are not involved in the  strategic productivity profitable tactical or tactical planning for the business.
