Liberalism has   six main branchestwo main branchesonly one main branchthree main branches. The differences are mostly concerned with   adopting conservative ideasadopting socialist ideasthe application of core ideaswhich core ideas are significant. The differences have developed as a result of the way that society developed over time.

Classical liberalism developed in the Enlightenment among the   scientistsmiddle classessoldiersupper classes, who wished to develop capitalism because they considered it a good way to promote   wealthequalityindividual freedomcommunity. They were also concerned with breaking the power of  coloniesthe empirethe establishmentculture as its institutions had preserved their own positions by imposing restrictions on everyone else. 

Modern liberalism developed after the great economic depression of the late nineteenth century, which saw classic liberal ideas such as ultimate personal freedoms and   a limited stateliberal democracycapitalismmeritocracy discredited. Instead, liberalism moved towards a focus on   responsibility ofredefininglimitation ofremoving freedom and   an interventionista workers'a stronga limited state. This, therefore, brought liberalism a little closer to the ideas of  fascismcommunismsocialismconservatism, which had been gaining popularity.
