Circuits are components linked together for a specific purpose.
There are two types of circuit layout.  IdenticalBranchedSeriesParallel circuits have all of their components connected along a single path.  BranchedParallelIdenticalSeries circuits have components in different branches of a single circuit.

The rate at which work is done by a component is called  chargeenergycurrentpower. The sum of all potential difference drops around the circuit must be equal to the total potential difference across the full circuit to satisfy the conservation of  energycurrentchargepotential difference. The sum of the current into a circuit junction must be equal to the sum of the current out of the circuit junction to satisfy the conservation of  potential differenceresistanceenergycharge.
Without a power supply, current won't be able to flow around a circuit. The  cell potentialpotentialterminal potential differenceelectromotive force of a power supply is the total potential difference generated within a power supply, while the  terminal potential differenceelectromotive forcevoltagecell potential is the potential difference available from the power supply to the circuit; the reason these are not identical is due to the  internal resistancecell potentialterminal potential differencevoltage of the power supply causing a drop in potential difference within the battery.
