Circuits are components linked together for a specific purpose.
There are two types of circuit layout.  ParallelIdenticalBranchedSeries circuits have all of their components connected along a single path.  SeriesBranchedParallelIdentical circuits have components in different branches of a single circuit.
 Potential dividerVoltage ratioParallelCurrent divider circuits can be used to reduce an input voltage to a specific value, either to use for measurements or as a power supply for a circuit which needs a specific voltage.
The rate at which work is done by a component is called  powerchargecurrentenergy. The sum of all potential difference drops around the circuit must be equal to the total potential difference across the full circuit to satisfy the conservation of  currentenergypotential differencecharge. The sum of the current into a circuit junction must be equal to the sum of the current out of the circuit junction to satisfy the conservation of  chargeenergypotential differenceresistance.
Without a power supply, current won't be able to flow around a circuit. The  potentialterminal potential differenceelectromotive forcecell potential of a power supply is the total potential difference generated within a power supply, while the  voltagecell potentialelectromotive forceterminal potential difference is the potential difference available from the power supply to the circuit; the reason these are not identical is due to the  terminal potential differencecell potentialinternal resistancevoltage of the power supply causing a drop in potential difference within the battery.
