Man Like Mobeen offers a new perspective to sitcoms as it focuses on the experiences and relationships within Small Heath, a neighbourhood with a large Muslim community in inner-city  BelfastBristolBirminghamBath. Sitcoms like Friends have often been criticised for a lack of  starsdiversitytalentvariety in their core cast, and for focusing on a very narrow section of society.

In this episode, Wifey Riddim, the controversial topic of  drug takingabortionknife crimearranged marriage is represented in a comedic way. This practice has often been discussed in TV and film, but generally in a serious and  depressingconfusinghorrifyingdramatic manner, whereas Man Like Mobeen presents the issue in a more  light-hearteduninterestedboredinaccurate way in order to derive humour from it.

Creator, writer, and star of the show  Duaa KarimTolu OgunmefunGuz KhanTez Ilyas is from a Muslim Pakistani family, and his comedy focuses on social issues affecting this community, mixed with his own personal insights and experiences. In other episodes, the show explores serious subjects such as far-right racism,  homophobiamisogynyIslamophobiaanti-Semitism and knife crime.

The real-life community as portrayed in Man Like Mobeen has been subjected to prejudice by media outlets like the Daily Mail and The Sun, and as such the show could be seen as counteracting these negative  patternsimpactstrendsstories of representation.
