Tsunamis and Their Impacts

When earthquakes occur beneath the sea, a   anticyclonewhirlwindtsunamihurricanetornadosnowstorm can be triggered. When this happens the energy released by the tremor travels in waves across the ocean at high   latitudesaltitudetemperaturesnoonhumidityspeeds until the waves reach a place where the seabed is shallower. Here the waves can   shrinktravelflyswimsinkrise to many metres in height. On 11 March 2011, a massive tsunami hit the coast of   IndiaJapanAustraliaNigeriaBrazilKenya. Its epicentre was in the   AtlanticPacificIndianArcticMarineSouthern Ocean, just off the main island of   Oki-ShotoUlleungdoHonshuHokkaidoKyushuKurilYaku-Shima. One of the most serious impacts was on   a railway stationa factorya shopping centrea nuclear reactora hotela housing estate near Fukushima. Here, reactors were knocked out by the   strong windsheavy rainfallarmyexplosiontidal surgeshigh temperatures and   precipitationelectricityseawaterradiationgasevaporation leaked from the plant. After this incident, the Japanese public insisted that all nuclear reactors should be  reopeneddestroyedstrengthenedrebuiltshut downprotected.
