Most of the action of Othello is set in   CyprusRhodesVeniceCrete. The scenes largely take place around  a battlefielda churcha castlea palace. For the Venetians, Cyprus is a strategic area of observation regarding   CreteEgyptRomeTurkey. Many of the locations in the castle are used in the play, but not the   turretsgardenhallrooms. The actual location in Cyprus is described as a   a public marketa hamletan army barracksa seaport. Another location that features in the play is an open space near a   riverbayquaycanal. At the time the play is set, in the   fifteenthseventeenthfourteenthsixteenth century, Cyprus was a   principalitycolonyregionsanctuary of Venice. The journey to Cyprus from Venice takes only around  two daysone daythree daysfour days, but many of the events from Act 3 onwards, since leaving Venice, would seem to have taken longer to develop. 

Othello is a play with few props. The most significant one for the plot's development is the   daggerhandkerchiefmarriage bedcandle, while the one that proves more significant for Othello and Desdemona's relationship is the   wedding ringcandlebedsheetmarriage bed.
