There are many enjoyable things about camping trips. There are some things that are not so enjoyable; however, I firmly believe that the good far outweighs the bad.
My favourite thing about camping is the opportunity it gives for spending time in the countryside. The birds singing has got to be the best alarm clock in the world. The peace and quiet is relaxing, and there’s nothing better than fresh air for your well-being. A recent study concluded that people who regularly go camping are on average much happier and healthier than those who don’t.
Pitching a tent does provide a challenge at times; however, that’s all part of the fun of camping. If you follow the instructions carefully, then the tent shouldn’t prove to be too much of a problem, and once you get the hang of it, then you’ll wonder why you found it so difficult in the first place.
Even when the weather is not what you would have hoped, I don’t believe it puts a dampener on a camping trip. The sound of the rain pattering on the canvas overhead fills me with pleasure. We always have a lot of fun huddled up together playing cards and board games.
I have lots of happy memories of camping with my family.

I’m going to tell you about a time I was completely and utterly miserable. It was when my grandparents forced me to go camping with them for a whole weekend.
First of all, there was the smell. I have never smelt anything so disgusting in all my life! The campsite we stayed on was a farmer’s field and the stench of cow manure was inescapable. Not only did the animals smell bad, but they were also incredibly noisy and I ended up having a headache for the entire time I was there.
Although my grandparents are regular campers and have had their tent for about twenty years, they still don’t know how to put it up. I had to stand there for about three hours holding one pole while they tried to figure it out. In the end, we had to tie the guide ropes to nearby trees and just hope that the tent didn’t fall down on us in the night.
During our first night there was an almighty downpour, and, because our tent wasn’t up properly, it leaked and we got completely soaked. It continued to rain all the next day, and I have never been so bored in my life. We were trapped inside the tent with nothing to do except listen to my grandpa’s stories about when he was a boy, stories I had heard about a million times before.
I was so happy to finally get home and vowed never to go camping again.
