Motion in a straight line is  linearoscillatingrotaryreciprocation motion, whereas motion that moves backwards and forwards in a straight line is  gravitationallinearreciprocationvelocity ratio. The type of motion demonstrated by a bicycle wheel is  potentiallinearkineticrotary motion. Levers can be classified as one of three types: first, second or third order. Each type of lever has three distinct parts:   a fulcruma ratioa cama bell crank, a load and an effort. The effort is sometimes known as the  multiplieroutputinputmagnifier. When working out the mechanical advantage of a lever system, a simple calculation can be used: MA is equal to the  loadnewtonsvelocity ratiofulcrum divided by the effort. Linkages are another type of mechanical device. A  pulleygearbell crankcam is a form of linkage, as is a push/pull linkage. The output motion of a linkage can change in three ways: direction, distance and  forcemovementlengthangle. A mechanical device used to covert rotary motion into reciprocating motion is a  gearfollowercampulley. Drop (snail) and eccentric (circular) are two different types of cam, and  round shapedrotary shapedpear shapedapple shaped is a third shape of cam. Two gears that mesh together form  a spur gearan idler geara compound gear traina simple gear train. When you require a gear system that needs input and output direction of rotation to be the same,  a pulleya compound gearan idler geara simple gear is placed between the two gears. A different mechanism that can be used to transfer rotary motion from one shaft to another is a  lever systemcam beltpulley and beltcam and follower.
