There are many losers from the process of the global shift in industry in both developed and   North AmericanemergingEuropeandeveloping countries.  In the developed nations people who worked in secondary industry such as  shop assistantsoffice workersfactory workersminers lost their jobs and found it hard to find new employment as they did not have the skills to work in  low-techtertiarylow-skilledmanufacturing industries . This led to the process known as  economic boomthe multiplier effectthe spiral of declinelevelling up.  Communities in the north of England, Scotland and South Wales saw an increase in social, economic and environmental deprivation.  Environmental problems included  loss of incomederelictionair pollutiondepopulation.  These issues still affect the reputation of these areas of the UK today and are reflected in the US in an area known as   the dust bowlthe sun beltDeath Valleythe rust belt.  This area also saw the loss of industry as result of global shift not just to China but also to countries such as  Zambiathe UKMexicoMadagascar
