SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) looks at businesses internally through   opportunities and threatsweaknesses and threatsstrengths and opportunitiesstrengths and weaknesses and externally through   strengths and weaknessesthreats and weaknessesopportunities and threatsopportunities and strengths. An entrepreneur deciding to assess the strengths and weaknesses of their business will need to be able to see both positives and   negativesinformationopportunitiesdetails of their situation. This will take both honesty and a realistic view of the business.

Opportunities focus on choices that can be made to improve the business. These might include investigating  a gapa spacean areaa section in the market for a new product or service, or changing their marketing   servicestrategystalactitestage.

Threats should be identified and taken seriously. A customer whose delivery is delayed will blame the business they bought it from, not the   employeremployeesupplierconsumer who has not provided the components in time. New, large competitors can cause difficulties as they can charge a lower   pricecommissionwagebonus to a smaller business. The smaller business is likely to lose customers.

If a business responds well to an opportunity, this can increase its   responsibilitiesratesrevenuerent. Failing to respond appropriately to a threat can result in a decrease in revenue, and an increase in   costscapacityhoursstaffing.
