To commit a crime is to make  a difficultan immorala gooda moral choice in choosing a course of action which is against the laws of a country. Therefore, as discussions of the reasons and motivations for committing crime are linked to  philosophyimprisonmentmoralitysociety, it is necessary to examine the interaction between crime and perceptions of  goodhappinesssadnesslove and evil.  SadnessLoveEvilHappiness is a person, event or motivation which is wholly deprived of morality. It is wicked in its very nature. An example of a crime which is widely considered to be  happyevilsadloving is the crime of  murdervandalismaccidental arsonpetty theft because of the immense suffering such a crime usually creates for the loved ones of the victim, as well as the fear it can create in a community.  HappinessGoodBadSadness is the opposite of evil – it is something which is considered to be morally commendable. It is a goal that we should all strive for in order to maintain a harmonious, happy and safe society. Crime generally causes some degree of  sufferinghappinesscontentmentbenefit to the victim of the crime and, therefore, can be considered to be  poorevilundesirablefair. However, not all crimes are viewed in this way – the way in which a crime is interpreted is generally considered dependent on the  consequenceintentmistakesresult of the criminal associated with the crime. For example, if someone kills someone else, but has done so in an act of self-defence, then this would be considered to be  moralcorrectjustifiedgood and, therefore, might not be considered to be an evil act as it was not premeditated.
