Many Christians believe that a religious upbringing is important. Raising your children to have a belief in God is a teaching found within the Bible, in verses such as  DeuteronomyProverbsLeviticusNumbers 22:6, which states that believers should, 'Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are older they will not turn from it'.

Because Christians believe that the Bible is the  ideaswordencyclopedianovel of God, so they consider this to be guidance from God on how to raise children. It also makes sense that people of faith would raise their children in the same faith that they do – this is true across all  companiesreligionsorganisationscults

There are various ways in which Christians may demonstrate their faith to their children. They may buy them children's  Qur'ansVedasTalmudsBibles which enable children to learn important stories about people of faith. Children may also go with their parents to church, and take part in  Wednesday SchoolMonday SchoolTuesday SchoolSunday School. This is where they will learn Bible stories as well as be taught important ideas from the Christian faith.

Christian parents hope that by telling their children about Bible stories and about how much God loves them, this will establish a solid basis for their children having their own faith when they are  old peoplemiddle-agedadultsteenagers

Non-religious people may object to this approach as they may argue that by raising a child in a specific belief, their parents are taking away that child's right to  enjoychooseexpresslive their own faith. They may view it as the parents forcing their beliefs on the child. Christians may respond by pointing out that raising a child in a Christian family is no different from raising a child in a non-religious family; children are likely to take on the faith of their parents to a certain extent, and this is not limited to religious people.
